Medical Assisting
Our Program in Medical Assisting is designed to cultivate the skills and competencies necessary for entry-level positions in office, clinical, and administrative medical environments. It combines classroom instruction, hands-on lab practice, and externships in local physicians' offices to prepare students for careers in medical assisting.
Student Learning Outcomes
• Show proficiency in spelling, pronunciation, and usage of medical terminology and abbreviations when communicating with patients and healthcare professionals.
• Analyze and summarize information from patient medical records and other clinical documents.
• Identify key anatomical landmarks used in various medical procedures.
• Connect patient symptoms to specific body systems or structures involved.
• Assess written orders to ensure the legality of performing the requested tasks.
• Evaluate clinical situations to determine the appropriate ethical response.
Program Specific Goals/Objectives:
The proposed Diploma Program in Medical Assisting aims to develop the skills and competencies needed for entry-level roles in the office, clinical, and administrative medical settings. This program prepares students to take on the responsibilities of health professionals in the medical assisting field by offering technical training and skill enhancement that will help them secure employment. Students will benefit from a blend of classroom learning, hands-on practice in campus laboratories, and real-world experience through externships in local physicians' offices.
